Francesco Beguinot

Professor Beguinot received his M.D. in 1981 at the "Federico II" University in Naples, and his Ph.D. in 1986 at the University of Siena, Italy. He is a certified clinical specialist in Internal Medicine. Professor Beguinot spent about two years as a research scientist at the National Institute of Arthritis, Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases, National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, and three years at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, USA. After his training, Professor Beguinot established his own laboratory at the Centro di Endocrinologia ed Oncologia Sperimentale del CNR in Naples, Italy. He has been subsequently appointed Professor of General Pathology at the "Federico II" University of Naples where he directs a research group working in the fields of insulin action and type 2 diabetes genetics and genomics. He is also director of the Metabolic Disease Unit at the University Hospital in Naples. Professor Beguinot's articles have been published by internationally reknown journals; he received several international scientific awards and prizes and is member of 8 learned societies. He has been member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Endocrinology Society, member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Biological Chemistry and coordinator of several basic and industrial research networks active in the field of type 2 diabetes and funded by the European Union, the Italian Ministry of Education, the CNR and INSERM.
