John Nolan

John Nolan

John Nolan is Professor of Diabetes and Metabolism at Trinity College Dublin, and consultant endocrinologist at St James's Hospital Dublin. He is a Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Physicians in Ireland and Edinburgh. He graduated in Biochemistry (1978) and in Medicine (1985) from University College Dublin. He completed fellowship training in Endocrinology and Metabolism in Copenhagen and the University of California San Diego. His research focuses on the causes and treatment of severe insulin resistance, including the mechanisms underlying the effects of physical exercise on insulin sensitivity.

In addition to his clinical and research commitments, he is an executive member and Chair of the Postgraduate Education Committee of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD). In this role, he has organised postgraduate courses and lectured on diabetes in many countries. He is a member of the advisory board of the DIAMAP project and chairs its sub-group on clinical science and clinical care.
