‘It is often an emotionally-charged situation when diabetes develops in a family with an affected parent. On this occasion, however, this seemed to help. The 7-year-old girl who drew this picture disliked injections, but seems to have been helped by the knowledge that so many other members of her family were on insulin. When discussing this picture, she told me she had always assumed that starting injections was just a normal part of growing up.’ Edwin Gale
