‘These drawings were a gift from six-year-old Simon and five-year-old Jim, two talented friends whose drawings are sold by their mothers as postcards to raise funds for our diabetes research. I am struck that these young boys consider their insulin supply devices as part of their anatomy in their self-portraits. These pictures are hanging in my office. What better motivation could I have to pursue our quest to cure type 1 diabetes? I dedicate my exertions to them, and to all those like them.’
