Increases in glomerular volume are a recognised feature of diabetes, but appear to be more pronounced in patients with type 2 diabetes. In the present issue of Diabetologia (50:906–912) White et al. discuss whether these differences in glomerular volume between type 1 and type 2 diabetes patients are pathologically significant.
