The cover picture shows a coloured freeze-fracture SEM of prostate cancer. Prostate cancer and type 2 diabetes are associated - men with type 2 diabetes seem to be at decreased risk of prostate cancer although the data are controversial.
In the present issue of Diabetologia (51: 1757-1760), Frayling et al. review recent studies that highlight a robust genetic link between the two diseases. A version (allele) of a common polymorphism in the HNF1B gene both increases risk of type 2 diabetes and protects from prostate cancer.
