September 2008 cover

The cover picture shows a coloured TEM of a rubella virus. Rubella is an RNA virus with a lipid envelope that produces a ring or 'toga' effect under the electron microscope. The congenital rubella syndrome provides the only unequivocal evidence that a virus can cause diabetes, but its association with type 1 diabetes is more complex than previously appreciated (see Gale 51:1559-1566).
