The cover picture shows an abstract mosaic of an MRI scan of the brain. Neuroimaging is increasingly used to explore the haemodynamic responses related to neural activity in the brain. In the present issue of Diabetologia (52: 524-533), Chechlacz et al., using fMRI, report that type 2 diabetes is associated with changes in responses to food in brain regions known to be involved in motivation and in emotional processing, and that these changes are modulated by dietary self-care.
