The cover picture shows the cockpit of the racing car of Charlie Kimball, a professional racer diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 21 years of age. A continuous glucose monitor attached to the steering wheel can be seen in the lower part of the image. If the device indicates a certain decline in the driver's glucose levels during a race, the driver then sips a glucose solution through the straw that can also be seen in the picture. In the present issue of Diabetologia (53: 593-596) Hermanides and DeVries comment on the current status of continuous glucose monitoring.
