The cover shows Diakese, one of several children filmed in Kinshasa, DR Congo for Lifeblood (http://www.lifeforachild.org/en/node/249), which documents the journeys of children with type 1 diabetes and the 82-year old nun who has dedicated herself to their care amid civil and political unrest. The film aims to raise awareness about the devastating impact of diabetes. In the present issue of Diabetologia (54: 19–24) Gill et al.make the case that medications for diabetes marketed to some countries with limited resources could be provided in a more context-appropriate and cost-effective manner.
